Course Description
This course explores the advanced physiological principles governing muscle development, function, and adaptation in animals, with a focus on applications in the livestock industry. Students will integrate molecular, cellular, and systemic perspectives of muscle physiology to understand factors influencing growth performance, meat quality, and metabolic efficiency. The course also examines innovative biotechnological and digital approaches (e.g., omics, imaging, nanotechnology, AI-based phenotyping) shaping modern livestock production.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
· Explain advanced concepts of skeletal muscle structure, metabolism, and regulation across species.
· Analyze physiological and molecular mechanisms controlling muscle growth, atrophy, and meat quality in livestock.
· Evaluate how nutrition, hormones, genetics, and environmental factors influence muscle development and productivity.
· Apply knowledge of muscle physiology to improve growth performance and sustainability in livestock systems.
· Critically assess new technologies and research trends in muscle biology for industrial and academic applications.
