ศาสตร์ในการดูแลผู้ใหญ่และผู้สูงอายุในภาวะวิกฤตหลังผ่าตัด โดยมุ่งเน้นการดูแลภาวะล้มเหลวของระบบทางเดินหายใจ ระบบไหลเวียนโลหิต และระบบประสาท (สมองและไขสันหลัง) ให้ความสำคัญกับการป้องกันและจัดการภาวะแทรกซ้อนหลังการผ่าตัด  การใช้เทคโนโลยีขั้นสูง การใช้ยาความเสี่ยงสูง การกู้ และ/หรือทดแทนการทำงานของอวัยวะสำคัญ รูปแบบและระบบการบริการบนหลักฐานเชิงประจักษ์ที่ตอบสนองต่อความต้องการของผู้ป่วย การดูแลต่อเนื่อง การสื่อสารกับผู้ป่วยและครอบครัว การทำงานร่วมกับทีมสุขภาพ กฎหมายจริยธรรม และการพิทักษ์สิทธิ์

                   The science of caring for adults and older adults in critical conditions after surgery, with a focus on managing respiratory, circulatory, and neurological (brain and spinal cord) failure. Preventing and managing postoperative complications, utilizing advanced technologies, administering high-risk medications, and supporting or replacing organ function. The use of advanced technologies, high-risk medications, and organ support or replacement; evidence-based care models and service systems that meet patient needs; continuity of care; communication with patients and families; collaboration with the healthcare team; legal and ethical considerations; and patient advocacy.
